HINTS & TIPS
WARNING - EYE PROTECTION MUST BE WORN - POKE HAZARD
We want your tree to look as good as it did when we first made it. So to help you on your way we're sharing all the little things that we've learnt in the last 7 years with you.
Included are tips on "pre and after care", "aesthetics" to ensure that your tree looks amazing and "repairs" and "spares" ordering should you need it.
Pre and After Care of your Driftwood Tree
FRAGILE
Driftwood is a fragile element. We can never say where any one piece of your tree has come from, nor how old it may be. It's possible that some pieces have crossed entire oceans and been at sea for many years.
All pieces should be handled with care at all times, opening, sorting, building, decorating and storing.
SEA SALT
All of your driftwood contains sea salt by its very nature. In order to allow for easy removal of driftwood pieces for repair or packing, it is best to take some time to reduce this ingress by rubbing your metal poles with chalk or wax. A crayon or candle will work well. Before any new assembly lightly rub your pole with a fine sand paper or file to remove any oxidisation.
PRESSURE
When adding or removing your driftwood pieces to the center pole always ensure that any directed pressure is through the middle of the piece supported closely by both hands.
WARNING - Directed pressure at the ends of driftwood pieces will most likely result in breakages.
Aesthetics, Helping you Build your Best Driftwood Tree
SIGHTING STICK "a"
The first of your pieces of driftwood that you slide onto your pole is stick "a", you will want to "sight" this stick to face the angle of direction that your tree will mostly be viewed from.
This will give a strong line and outer shape for you to admire when you've finished.
FLIP/ROTATE 180
Your tree has already been built and taken apart at least once by us.
If you're unhappy with the look of any one piece then take it off and flip or rotate it 180 degrees and try again, There's no such thing as "the wrong way around" but each piece can be on one of two ways, so do try the other.
Repairs and Ordering Replacement Pieces
BROKEN DRIFTWOOD
As we've already mentioned driftwood is an inherently fragile element.
If it's the case that a piece has arrived broken in transit and you inform us within 3 days of receipt of your tree, then we will replace it FREE of charge.
A broken piece can be repaired using splints and masking tape, although normal clear tape will work equally as well.
Splints can be made using pencils, bamboo skewers or lollipop sticks. Brace a pair of splints either side of the breakage and tightly secure with your tape.
ORDERING SPARE PARTS
Should you need to order a replacement piece of driftwood for your tree
then please send us a message with the following details included.
The length of stick and also the thickness/height of stick through its middle. A photo is also helpful but not essential.
